The Traverse City area hosts a wide variety of festivals throughout the year. By far our largest annual event is the National Cherry Festival, held in early July in downtown Traverse City. Other major celebrations throughout the year are listed below, with links to the official sites if available.

Happy Apple Days

Location: Downtown Traverse City

Happy Apple Days in Downtown Traverse City will run from October 3-10.  The streetscapes will be decked with cornstalks and festive mums.  Merchants will have bushels of apples to share with their customers.  For more information call (231) 922-2050 or visit www.downtowntc.com.

Arts of the Woodland Indians

Location: Dennos Museum Center

This exhibition draws from the museum's collection of art by the Woodland Indians.  Not only does this exhibition include excellent examples of quillwork and sweetgrass basketry from both Michigan and Ottawa artists, but also prints by artists of the famed woodland or Anishinabe style of painting, such as Norval Morrisseau and Roy Thomas.

Hours: Mon-Sat 10 am - 5 pm, Sun 1 - 5 pm, Thurs - Open until 8 pm.  Admission: Adults $6, Children $4  The museum is closed on major holidays.

Haunted Hayrides

Location: Hearth and Vine Cafe, Black Star Farms

Haunted Hayride will take place from 6-10 pm every Friday and Saturday in October leaving from Hearth and Vine Cafe across from the Tasting Room.  The price is $10/per person for an evening of fright.  Pizzas and sandwiches will be made available for purchase in the cafe and of course, wine and mulled cider will also be available.

Interlochen "Collage"

Location: Corson Auditorium at Interlochen Center for the Arts

One of Interlochen's most popular events, "Collage" is a rapid-fire sampler of student performances encompassing music, dance, theatre, creative writing, visual arts and film.  It's an exhilarating tour de force that has to be seen to be believed!  $25 adult, $22 senior and $9 student.

Stargazing- Public Viewing

Students from the NMC Astronomy Club and Grand Traverse Astronomical Society are hosting an opportunity to Stargaze in order to expose more people to astronomy. They have scheduled weekly viewing nights to commemorate 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy.  Programming will be different each week. Souvenirs like a "star finder" map of the sky will be available.

The Northwestern Michigan College Rogers Observatory is located at 1753 Birmley Road in Traverse City.

Latin American Trunk Sale

Location: Dennos Museum Center

In collaboration with the "River of Gold" exhibition at the Dennos Museum Center, opening October 11, the Museum Store will host a Trunk Sale of Handmade Latin American crafts.  Hand crafted textiles: Molas from Panama, Cuadros from Peru, Baskets and pottery from Mexico, textiles from Central American are just some of the wonderful items on sale.  The sale will be held in the museum Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10 from 10am - 5pm and Sunday, October 11, 1-5pm.

Grimfell Asylum

Evernight Entertainment will once again be opening "Grimfell Asylum" Haunted Attraction in Traverse City.  This Fall The Asylum Doors Open...let the madness and screaming begin!!!  This year as last year, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the "Munson Breast Health Center".  The Asylum will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October as well as November 1.  $7
