Events Calendar
The Traverse City area hosts a wide variety of festivals throughout the year. By far our largest annual event is the National Cherry Festival, held in early July in downtown Traverse City. Other major celebrations throughout the year are listed below, with links to the official sites if available.

Happy Apple Days
Happy Apple Days in Downtown Traverse City will run from October 3-10. The streetscapes will be decked with cornstalks and festive mums. Merchants will have bushels of apples to share with their customers. For more information call (231) 922-2050 or visit www.downtowntc.com.
Historical Walking Tours
The tours depart from the Heritage Center, which is located at 322 Sixth Street in Traverse City. There are two tours per week. Tour dates and times are Tuesdays and Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. Guides are experienced volunteers Carol Hale and Fred Hoisington of Traverse City.
The historical walking tours are approximately two hours in length. Comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. Among the destinations are the historic homes and buildings on Sixth Street, Front Street, Wellington Street, and State Street, among others.
Advance reservation is required for the tour. Tickets are $10 per person. Group reservations are also accepted. For reservations call (231) 995-0313.
Individuals who participate in the tour on Tuesday and Saturdays will also have access to the Museum of History and the new, temporary exhibits.
Acme Farm Market
Stop by the Acme Farm Market, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 17. Local vendors are featured including: Uncle Kenn's Kettle Corn (watch it made), homemade baked goods, plants and hanging baskets, eco-friendly soils/fertilizers, Hypertufa planters, wildflower suncatchers, fruits and vegi’s (in season), and more. The market is located next to the Stained Glass Cabinet Company, 4160 M-72 East. Interested vendors call 231-938-2007.

Arts of the Woodland Indians
This exhibition draws from the museum's collection of art by the Woodland Indians. Not only does this exhibition include excellent examples of quillwork and sweetgrass basketry from both Michigan and Ottawa artists, but also prints by artists of the famed woodland or Anishinabe style of painting, such as Norval Morrisseau and Roy Thomas.
Hours: Mon-Sat 10 am - 5 pm, Sun 1 - 5 pm, Thurs - Open until 8 pm. Admission: Adults $6, Children $4 The museum is closed on major holidays.
Haunted Hayrides
Haunted Hayride will take place from 6-10 pm every Friday and Saturday in October leaving from Hearth and Vine Cafe across from the Tasting Room. The price is $10/per person for an evening of fright. Pizzas and sandwiches will be made available for purchase in the cafe and of course, wine and mulled cider will also be available.
Wan Liya at Artcenter
Artcenter Traverse City in collaboration with the Dennos Museum is pleased to present renowned Chinese paint and sculpture artist, Wan Liya for a demonstration and workshop followed by a social meet and greet reception. This opportunity is open to the public and will take place at Artcenter, 720 S Elmwood Ave, Traverse City.
Wan is one of the artists featured in the Breaking the Mold: Contemporary Chinese and Japanese Ceramic Sculpture exhibition at the Dennos Museum. He is known for creating experimental art by taking the familiar and looking at it in different ways. Wan's work has been described as imaginative, highly erotic and daring, and sometimes extremely funny.

Appraisal Day
Local art appraiser Don Butkovich will be at the Museum to verbally appraise your hidden treasures! Each person with a reservation can bring a maximum of two items. The proceeds from the $8 fee per object will generously be donated to the Dennos Museum Center's museum programming fund. The Dennos Museum Center is open daily 10am to 5pm Mondays through Saturdays, Thursday until 8pm and Sundays 1-5pm. Admission is $6.00 adults, $4.00 children and free to museum members. Stargazing-Public Viewing
Students from the NMC Astronomy Club and Grand Traverse Astronomical Society are hosting an opportunity to Stargaze in order to expose more people to astronomy. They have scheduled weekly viewing nights to commemorate 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy. Programming will be different each week. Souvenirs like a "star finder" map of the sky will be available.
The Northwestern Michigan College Rogers Observatory is located at 1753 Birmley Road in Traverse City.
Alden Heritage Days
Alden will host Heritage Day featuring craftspeople and artisans demonstrating their wares and skills throughout the various shops. The day begins at 10:30am-4:00pm and will include a wide variety of displays. Refreshments will be offered in some shops.

The Sprig's and Sprouts will hold an Apple and Bake Sale at Alden United Methodist Church from 10:30 to 4. For more information contact Tracy Morrison at (231) 264-6365.
Mrs. Smith's Pumpkin Patch award ceremony will be held from 12:00-2:00pm. Local school children decorate pumpkins for display at Mrs. Smith's Pumpkin Patch in Downtown Alden. Prizes are awarded, refreshments are served, and games are played. No pumpkin is overlooked. This event is sponsored by The Alden Volunteers.
