Gas Prices - To go or not to go?
Gas Prices. To go or not to go?
With the higher gas prices, many Americans are trying to decide whether to take a summer trip or just stay home. While no one enjoys paying over $4.00 per gallon of gas - we certainly do enjoy a summer vacation!
When analyzed, the additional cost of gas this summer compared to last summer does not add a significant amount to the total cost of a summer vacation - when you consider your lodging, meals and entertainment expenses. The issue has become much more of an emotional, and media fueled reaction, than rational consideration.
For example with a vehicle that averages 20 mpg, the additional fuel cost, when compared to last summer, for a 3 night trip to Traverse City from Grand Rapids will only be about 1.5% of your vacation expense, from the Detroit area only about 2.6% and from Chicago it's still only about 3.3% of your total vacation expense.
Will gas prices cause your summer of 2008 to be a disappointment? Or, will you "rationally" consider the impact and decide that your summer vacation is worth the slight additional investment to create memories and enjoy the beautiful Traverse City area with our miles of sugar-sand beaches, towering dunes, unique shopping, delightful dining, engaging wineries, championship golf and so much more.
